Managing Files and Folders

A folder is like the old manila folders you once used to organize important papers in a file cabinet. A file is one of those sheets of paper in the folder.
A computer is like the old file cabinet but with documents filed electronically.
In the example to the right, you see one folder and five sub-folders.
The sub-folder for 2004 contains ten files, in this case, photos.

How to Make a Folder in Windows

1. On the desktop, right click the "My Computer" icon.
2. Click on "My Documents."
3. Right click on any empty space in the right pane.
4. Select "New" from the list and select "Folder" from the list.
5. Type over new folder with a name you choose for the folder.

TIP: If you want to create several folders at the same time, you can right click on the folder and choose “copy” then paste for the number of folders needed.
